Happy Cozy Diwali!

Couldn’t think of what to write so I found a writing prompt list of October. Today’s topic- “what I enjoy about cozy evenings in”. What a prompt, spoke straight to my soul as a homebody. I mean it’s a task on my finch to step out of my house once a day. That’s how much of a nasty chore I find it. Anyway, back to the topic of, softly lit lamps, a cup of tea, playful cats and a well written book. It kind of feels like little lights are shining inside me.

Speaking of lights, it’s also 2 days from Diwali and the festive mood is in the air. As much as I hate the pollution It is still my favourite festival. How do I explain what this atmosphere, with the melting sun and lit up houses does for my soul. For these evenings I’m not worried about the future, finances, or my bad haircut. All I want to do is sit in the colony park as people switch on their lights and take it in. Seeing the twinkling Diwali lights shining like daffodils in the sunrise, is something I can do for hours! A thing of beauty is truly a joy forever.

I also love how generous everyone is around this time. Huge number of gifts are bought and distributed to everyone; friends, family, and people who work for/with us. Everyone treats each other with 20 percent more understanding and kindness. I remember one time on Diwali I was waiting to cross the street and overheard a drunk man on the phone. He was speaking to his wife or girlfriend, tearfully admitting to her he has drank alcohol despite her advice, but he loves her so much. Which in my opinion embodies the Diwali spirit. Ah what a time! I hope we can all find someone to drunkenly call because we have to tell them how much we love them. You know someone who wants our call and is giving us good advice to quit drinking. Not the ex who we hate but could never curse out properly. That’s a Holika Dahan thing. Happy cozy Diwali to anyone reading this.
